What is the Child Dental Benefit Scheme?
The child dental benefits scheme is a Commonwealth-funded program that fully or partially covers the cost of selected dental services for children. Our CDBS dentist will get the parent or guardian to fill out a form, after which we’ll bulk bill the patient and invoice Medicare directly on their behalf.
What is Covered Under the Child Dental Benefits Scheme?
The children’s dental scheme covers various services up to $1,000 for each child over 2 consecutive calendar years. This includes:
- Dental check-up and examination
- X-rays
- Cleaning
- Fissure sealing
- Fillings
- Root canals
- Extractions
The kids’ dental scheme doesn’t cover orthodontic treatment, cosmetic dental work or any dental services that are carried out in a hospital.
Who is Eligible for the Children’s Dental Scheme?
Your child is eligible for the CDBS scheme if they meet the following criteria:
- They’re eligible for Medicare
- They’re aged between 2 and 17 years for at least 1 day that year
- The child or parent receives an eligible payment at least once that year
Parents don’t need to register themselves or their children for the free dental scheme. If a child is eligible, this will be communicated by Medicare.
